With just a push of a button, taxis will halt at your door across 57 locations in Sharjah, easing you from the need of booking them through the call centre, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Sharjah.
It first initiated the 'Taxi Butler' or 'Taxi Click' service at the Wasit police station in 2015, according to a senior official.
Sheikh Saqr bin Sultan Al Qasimi, director of the franchise and licensure department, said they have increased the number of these smart gadgets to 57 to meet the demand. "The Taxi Click service is meant to save time and ensure the convenience of the passengers, particularly at crowded places such as hospitals, shopping centres, and government departments."
The RTA Sharjah was the first entity to launch this service in the region, he added. "Customers can order a taxi ride by pushing a button on the gadget for the nearest cab to reach them."
The smart gadgets display the number plate of the ordered taxi, and the time expected to reach the passenger, Sheikh Qasimi explained.
The service was used by over 25,000 passengers in the first nine months of the year.
