The UAE has launched an urgent humanitarian initiative, calling on Emiratis and residents to volunteer for a nationwide relief drive for Lebanon.
Registration for the campaign called 'From the UAE and For Lebanon' is now ongoing on the UAE Volunteers Campaign's digital platform (volunteers.ae), with tasks lined up until August 25. While the drive is open to all Emiratis and residents across the UAE, the team is also in need of engineeers who can offer their expertise and help rebuild homes in Beirut.
Volunteers with engineering background can lend support in sorting out materials and items that will be used in reconstructing houses. This part of the drive shall take place from August 15 until September 12.
Other activities that volunteers can help with include preparing a list of essentials and collecting supplies that will be sent to the Lebanese people. Among the main priorities set for the drive is sending medical aid, food and other urgent necessities to those who need them most.
Nationwide campaign
The UAE Volunteers Campaign has been launched by the Higher National Committee for Volunteering during Crises last April in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development and Emirates Foundation, under the supervision of the National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority.
It aims at unifying volunteer activities nationwide, encouraging community participation and solidarity, and supporting national efforts to combat the spread of Covid-19.
Volunteers may choose between on-site or virtual initiatives that are posted on the platform www.volunteers.ae. Those interested may also call 800-VOLAE (80086523), or e-mail info@volunteers.ae.
