UAE residents are bracing for a three-day-long weekend with the government announcing a paid holiday on Thursday (September 21) for both the public and private sectors on account of the Islamic New Year, Al Hijri 1439.
Employees of federal ministries and departments will resume duties on Sunday (September 24). The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced that employees of private establishments will have a paid holiday on Thursday to mark the occasion.
A circular issued by Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, extended greetings to all citizens and residents.
Schools in Dubai will be closed on Thursday on account of the New Year, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority of Dubai (KHDA) said. "We asked the moon, and the moon said yes. (That means there's no school Thursday.) Happy Hijri everyone," the KHDA tweeted.
