While residents may be hoping for an extra holiday, no official announcements have yet been made for a day off in lieu of Commemoration Day (formerly known as Martyrs Day) which falls on a Friday this year.
Though Commemoration Day is normally a public holiday, the UAE Cabinet has already issued a decision detailing that the day's ceremonies will be undertaken by ministries and institutions across the country on Thursday, November 29, as November 30 falls on a Friday.
Commemoration Day will see the UAE flag raised at half-mast at 8am, and a minute of silence at 11:30am, followed by the raising of the UAE flag and the national anthem.
However, the country will be celebrating a double public holiday and a very long weekend as the public and private sectors will be given Sunday December 2 and Monday December 3 off as holidays, the UAE Cabinet announced on Friday night.
The 47th UAE National Day will fall on the Sunday, marking the date the UAE was originally formed back in 1971.
