The criminal investigation department of the Umm Al Quwain police has managed to track down and arrest an African gang of bank robbers.
Major Marwan Rashid Mohammed, head of organised crime at the UAQ police, said the gang closely follows customers from the very moment they enter the bank until they leave.
"They wait for the bank customer to stop anywhere, and then break the car window, rob the money inside, and flee the scene."
The CID department has been alerted by a bank customer that an unidentified gangster stole the money he withdrew from his account and left it in his car.
"A specialised CID team in the organised crime section was formed to collect information and evidence regarding the crime. They also launched an intense investigation to track down the criminals."
"The gangsters, who later proved to be of Arab-African origin, were tracked down and arrested in collaboration with the Dubai Police in just 48 hours."
The stolen money was also been returned to its owner. The crime has been referred to the UAQ public prosecution for legal action, he said.
"All members of the society are urged to be cautious about their money and never leave any cash or valuables inside their cars."
