An Asian driver, in his twenties, was drowned to death after the heavy truck he was driving slipped into the sea while docking on one of the seaports in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
According to a senior police officer, part of the solid wharf was broken under the truck which was being loaded with some cargo.
"The heavy truck then slipped into the sea with the victim on the steering wheel," said 1st Lt. Mohamed Saeed Al Shehi, acting head of the CID branch at the Shaam Police Station.
The victim, identified only as S.A.K., tried to jump out of the truck, but it was too late, he added.
"The driver was stuck into the truck with the heavy cargo load onto both of them that he could not make it and was drowned to death."
The Central Operations Room of the RAK Police, alerted of the mishap, dispatched police patrols, national ambulances, and rescue teams to the site in a record time.
"The driver, fished out of the seawater, was declared dead on the spot, and his body was shifted to the morgue of the nearest hospital for burial by relatives as due, while the case file was referred to the public prosecution investigations, and legal action."
