The Ras Al Khaimah criminal court has referred an expatriate, accused of beating his fellow worker to death with a hammer, to an accredited psychiatrist to examine his mental state.
The court records show that the suspect had a heated argument with the victim, following which he hammered him to death.
The defence lawyer asked the court, presided over by Chief Judge Sameh Shaker, to refer his client to a psychiatrist to probe his condition, claiming that he was not in a normal mental frame when he committed the crime.
"The expat is suffering from some mental disorders and he did not plan or intend to kill the victim, who was his friend."
The court ordered adjournment of the case to August 29 to give its final verdict based on the report of the psychiatrist.
