Asian forges dead man's signature to get UAE visa

Sharjah - The man told the court that he wanted to renew his residence visa and did not commit any fraud.

A 50-year-old Asian, who tried to obtain a visa in the name of a dead GCC national, has been charged with fraud. The accused stood trial at the Sharjah Criminal Court and was found to have forged the signature of a deceased GCC man.
According to the public prosecution, the accused made the forged signature after he managed to get the official document stamped. The accused was sentenced by the Sharjah Criminal Court to five years in prison in absentia, in December 2017.
According to police and prosecution records, the accused had submitted forged application to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah.
During the court hearing on Wednesday, the accused said that he was not aware that the signature was forged. He added that he gave the application to a person named Mahmoud, who assured him that he would complete the residency procedure. The accused said he had not even signed the application form submitted in the name of the deceased man. The man told the court that he wanted to renew his residence visa and did not commit any fraud.
The lawyer of the accused, Salem Saho, has requested the court to release his client on bail. The court hearing was adjourned to February 28.
