Four men and two women, who robbed a hotel guest of his money, have each been sentenced to three years imprisonment. The gang robbed him after forcing him to reveal the code of his safe.
According to public prosecution records, the six Nigerians had lured the victim through a woman into a massage date at a hotel apartment. He was then locked up and made to give them his hotel room key.
The Court of First Instance convicted all of them of charges of illegal confinement and deprivation of freedom, forcible theft, making criminal threats and blackmail, sexual assault and breaching others' privacy.
The court ordered the deportation of all of them after completing their jail sentences.
The Al Barsha police received the complaint on September 12, 2017.
"The complainant said he had been in contact with a woman who pretended to be an Emirati. But when he went to meet her in the hotel room, he only saw an African woman and her friends. They held him up against his will and forced him to undress and give them the key to his hotel room, along with the code to the safe inside his room," a police lieutenant said.
The court was told the six accused threatened they would break the victim's legs in case the safe secret number was wrong.
After they let him go, he found out they had stolen $2,900, Dh1,000 and a watch worth $7,000.
The police nabbed the defendants at the same hotel apartment where they locked the victim up. The accused confessed during interrogation that they had committed several robberies, deprived people of their freedom and threatened them.
One of the defendants admitted during public prosecution investigation that he had collected Dh700 from his accomplices after giving them his ID to book a room at a hotel. They had a plan to arrange for a fake massage date.
