The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced three Asians to three years in jail and fined them Dh13 million for taking bribe to sell diesel illegally.
The local media reported that the first convict was fined Dh6.5 million, the second Dh2.3 million and the third Dh4.2 million.
Two companies were fined Dh50,000 each for their involvement in the crime.
The court accused the convicts and companies of receiving bribes and undeclared assets that amounted to Dh78 million.
The documents of the case showed that the first convict owned 20 per cent of the complainant's company that carried out trade in diesel. The firm bought huge amounts of diesel and distributed it to other companies to make profits.
The first convict used his position to receive a bribe of Dh6.5 million to facilitate selling 20 million gallons of diesel fuel to companies without sufficient guarantees.
