A drunk man, who assaulted and resisted a police officer, was charged at a Dubai court on Monday.

The incident dates back to June 4 when the 44-year-old defendant from Bosnia-Herzegovina pushed the officer who showed up at his place following a complaint from a Filipina over loud music.

The resident was later taken into custody at the Jebel Ali police station.

He denied the charges of physically assaulting an on-duty police officer and consuming alcohol without a permit at the Court of First Instance.

The police officer told the public prosecution investigator that on the incident day he went to the defendant's flat. "We responded to a complaint against the defendant. Loud music could be heard from his place. He looked agitated when he opened the door and asked us why we were there. He yelled at us and was apparently drunk."

As the officer asked the accused to resolve the matter amicably without the need to register an official complaint, the latter pushed him several times. He was then taken into police custody.

A Pakistani security guard recalled having seen the defendant, who was then drunk, talking in a disrespectful manner to the officer. "He was yelling and very angry. My Cameroonian colleague told me that he saw the accused assaulting the cop."

The resident will be sentenced on July 22.
