An Asian man has stood trial at the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court for driving his car under the influence of alcohol, crashing into another vehicle and killing three of its occupants.
The case unfolded some months back when the RAK Police was alerted about the road accident which claimed three lives, and left one person seriously injured.
Police sources said that the suspect lost control over the steering wheel while driving an uninsured car with expired registration.
The drunk driver suddenly changed lane and rammed into another car.
The second car flipped over several times, and three people inside it were killed on the spot, after being thrown out of the windows of the vehicle they were travelling in.
A fourth passenger in the same car sustained serious injuries, and was rushed to the hospital for treatment and medical care.
The accused was arrested and referred to the RAK public prosecution, which filed several charges against him.
He was accused of driving an uninsured car - whose registration had expired - in a drunken state, killing three people and injuring a fourth one.
The case was referred to the RAK Criminal Court where the defendant admitted to his crime.
The court ordered the adjournment of the case to the end of the month until a lawyer is assigned to defend him.
