Delivery man on trial for groping boy in grocery shop in Dubai

Dubai - He denied a molestation charge at the Court of First Instance, claiming it happened by mistake.

A delivery man stood trial at a Dubai court on Monday for molesting an 11-year-old boy twice at a grocery shop and then following him to his parents' where he groped him again.
According to the public prosecution charge sheet, the 24-year-old Pakistani man was drunk on November 12, last year, when he groped the Indian boy three times and even tried to kiss him on the lips.
He denied a molestation charge at the Court of First Instance, claiming it happened by mistake. He confessed he was under the influence of liquor on that day.
The boy's father, a 40-year-old Indian employee, said that he was in Hor Al Anz when he received a phone call from his wife. "She wanted me to go home for an urgent matter. I found her waiting for me with our two sons downstairs at the building. I heard from her that our 11-year-old son was molested by a delivery man who was in the job uniform."
The complainant tried to look for the suspect but could not find him. He lodged a complaint at Al Muraqqabat police station.
"We checked a surveillance camera installed inside the shop and it showed the worker groping my son. I contacted the company where he worked and got his details and I informed the police about him," the father told the prosecutor.
"The worker was captured on camera touching my son when he entered and exited the shop. He did not buy anything from there."
The footage was used as evidence by the prosecution investigator. The defendant was found to have touched the victim intentionally.
A policeman said they apprehended the accused in Al Hamriyah area. "He admitted to the charge, claiming he was lured by the devil."
The defendant admitted during investigation that he drank alcohol around 9:00pm on the day of the incident and at 10.30pm he went to a shop in Hor Al Anz where he spotted the boy. He claimed he must have touched him by mistake.
He will be sentenced on February 28.
