The Sharjah Municipality has confiscated all the products from a bakery after the authority got a video that showed a worker touching a piece of baked bread after licking his finger. The municipality also suspended the bread baking process at the eatery.

A top official at the civic body said a team of inspectors was sent to the bakery in a residential area to carry out the seizure. The municipality has informed the Sharjah Economic Development Department, which is the only body in the emirate authorised to issue shutdown orders.

Khaleej Times has reached out to the SEDD for a comment.

The municipality official stressed that the health and safety of consumers is its "top priority" and it ensures this through routine inspection visits to ensure compliance with health standards.

This incident comes days after a bakery worker in Ajman was detained for spitting on a piece of bread before putting it inside the oven.
