Coronavirus: UAE reports 2,067 Covid-19 cases, 2,199 recoveries, 4 deaths

The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention on Wednesday reported 2,067 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 2,199 recoveries and four deaths.

The new cases were detected through a additional 156,553 tests.


The total number of cases in UAE as on January 6 stand at 218,766, while total recoveries are 195,520.

Death toll rises to 689.


The UAE has conducted close to 22 million tests till date as part of the country’s massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19.

A top official had said on Tuesday that the country has reported an increase in the number of coronavirus cases.

“Our goal in the next stage is to control the increase in the number of cases by reviewing the precautionary measures applied in establishments and institutions and emphasising the commitment of all members of society to preventive measures,” said Dr Farida Al Hosani, official spokesperson for the UAE health sector.

She revealed that 826,301 Covid-19 vaccines have been administered so far. “Approximately eight per cent of the country’s total population has received the Covid-19 vaccine.

“We aim to reach more than 50 per cent of the country’s population during the first quarter of this year,” she said. “This will help us reduce cases in general, reduce critical cases in particular, and control the disease better in the next phase.”

Meanwhile, UAE authorities announced that all federal government employees will have to perform a PCR test every 14 days at the employee’s own expense. Employees who have received the Covid-19 vaccine will be exempted from the rule.
