Next time when you shut the refrigerator, make sure it is closed properly. Hungry cats are out there to sneak in and savour all the meaty stuff stored there.
Here, in Umm Ul Quwain, a supermarket was fined and shut after a video clip of a cat eating minced meat from the shop's fridge went viral.
The Umm Al Quwain Municipality has ordered the closure of the supermarket for two days after a customer who found the cat inside the refrigerator made a video of it and shared it online.
The civic body, alerted of the cat video, immediately dispatched staff inspectors to the shop, according to a senior official.
Ghanim Ali Saeed Ghanim, Head of the Public Health and Environment Section, UAQ Municipality, said initial investigations showed that the staff workers failed to tightly close down the meat fridge before heading for prayer.
"When coming back they were shocked to watch the video clip of the cat while eating from the minced meat which has gone viral on social media," he said.
He also urged food outlet workers to observe all personal and public cleanliness rules.
Ghanim pointed out that a surprise inspection campaign has been launched in the emirate to ensure that the food being served at the eateries are healthy and fit for human consumption.
Stickers with contact numbers have been stuck on all food institutions for customers to report any violation at the Public Health and Environment section of the municipality, he added.
"The public are urged to report any violation they come across at the markets of the emirate via toll free number 050-6866011," he said, promising instant legal action in case of 'true' violations.
"The UAQ Municipality can be reached at 067656145; faxed at 067655138; and e-mailed at uaqmunic@emirates.net.ae. Our Facebook address is www.facebook.com/uaq.municipality, and Twitter page is @uaqmunicipality."
Official figures show that the Public Health and Environment Section of the UAQ Municipality fined 920 food establishments for flouting health and environment regulations last year.
