Speaking with Khaleej Times the Director of Transportation Systems at the Public Transport Agency Adel Shakri said: “There have been very rare instances when a commuter using the public bus service has been over-charged. We have rectified the problem and started issuing the refund.”

The Public Transport Agency at RTA has started refunding the accidentally deducted balances through its network of 3,400 parking meters located throughout the city. The official also noted the parking meters had been programmed to refund the amount on the spot. Commuters who have lost small amounts of balance from their Nol card have to first lodge a complaint by calling the RTA call centre (8009090).

After the complaint is analysed and validated by the Technical Support Section, a request is sent to the unified card department to refund the amount to the parking meter where the Nol card user can recover the balance.

“A Nol card user is only required to tap his/her card on a parking meter which immediately recognises the card and transfers the due amount to the card on the spot,” said Adil.
