As part of its humanitarian initiatives, the Sharjah Reformatory and Punitive establishments (SRPE) organised a family get-together for inmates to instill happiness and ensure family stability.
A top official at the SRPE said the initiative is part of a series of humanitarian ones launched during Ramadan and Eid celebrations. The SRPE also presented gifts including electronic games, mobile phones, bicycles and other items to the children of the inmates. Inmates whose familyare abroad were given the opportunity to video chat during the Eid break, in coordination with the Sharjah Social Service Department.
"These initiatives show the police's vision towards supporting the inmates and encouraging them to improve their behaviour and repent, in order to get back to their normal lives. It also allows children to meet their parents without obstacles away from the prison premises," said the official.
The officials at the SRPE prepared a list of inmates with good conduct, regardless of their jail term, to allow them to meet their children and family members. "These initiatives contribute to ensuring a healthy environment and prevent inmates from returning to a life of crime," he added.
His family members - mother and two children aged 13 and 15 - expressed their appreciation to the SRPE for arranging the meeting during Eid. "We are overwhelmed to see dad again. My dad is not a criminal; he just got involved in debts that he couldn't pay off due to a financial issue."
