The Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Charitable Educational Foundation has paid out the outstanding school fees of five expatriate children whose father had abandoned them and their mother three years back.
The siblings will be shifted to a charity school run by the foundation next year, where they will be able to continue their education for free.

Sumaia Hareb Al Suwaidi, chairwoman of the foundation, said they were alerted about the plight of the five siblings by their grandfather. "In his petition, the grandfather explained that he was unable to pay the remaining installments of the children's school fees. He said the father had flown to another country after abandoning his wife and kids."
The foundation formed a special committee to study the case. It was found that the family had an outstanding school fees of Dh15,700. The committee also found that the family hadn't heard from the father ever since he abandoned them.
The mother could not transfer her children to another school as their residence visas had expired, Al Suwaidi explained. "The mother filed a lawsuit against her husband, after which a court granted her divorce. After that, she won her children's custody and got their residence visas renewed under the sponsorship of their grandfather."
The grandfather himself is unemployed and depends on charity assistance. He also takes care of two disabled girls. "The foundation will provide the family with a Ramadan kit of foodstuff packages and sponsor them in collaboration with businessmen and philanthropists here."
