Authorities in Ras Al Khaimah have warned massage centres against illegally distributing visiting cards, with explicit images on it.
Dr Abdulrahman Al Shayeb, director-general of the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Ras Al Khaimah, said that any institution involved in promoting or distributing massage cards with explicit images will be fined.
"All institutions, including massage centres are obliged by law, to get a special permission to promote or distribute any advertisement, such as these massage cards, and these have to be in compliance with rules and traditions."
He added that massage centres can be promoted by these cards provided they do not include any indecent images.
"The department is more than ready to attend to public complaints on these explicit massage cards, and pledges to take immediate action against violators."
A warning letter and a hefty fine shall be slapped against an erring centre, he said. "The centre will be forced to remove these explicit cards, if any. They will also have to sign an undertaking never to do this violation again or face permanent closure."

Residents raise concern

Residents of Ras Al Khaimah have voiced their concerns over massage cards with explicit images placed on their car windows.
Abdulrahman Radhi, an Egyptian resident, said every day in the morning he finds many such cards on his car window.
"The problem is not only about the nuisance caused by the littering of cards of spas and massage centres, but rather the explicit images on them."
Mohammed Ibrahim, an Emirati, said he was shocked with around 20 massage cards covering the entire window of his car.
"The explicit images on these massage cards were so embarrassing as my children were with me."
Such cards damage the cleanliness of the city, he added. "They also tarnish the charm of our modern nation."
Ashraf Saad, a Syrian resident, urged the telecommunication companies here to disconnect the numbers displayed on these massage cards. "This seems to be a sound option to curb this growing menace."
Yahya Mohammed, a Yemeni resident, said these numbers are illegally used in promoting unlicensed trade activities.
"These are not mobile numbers for licensed companies and can be therefore disconnected considering the explicit images on these massage cards."
