A family picnic at Ras Al Khaimah's Al Qawasim Corniche could have turned into a tragedy, had it not been for an off-duty policeman, who rescued a little boy from drowning. Acknowledging his brave act, the RAK Police have honoured the officer, while showering praises on him.
As the family was busy revelling in the pleasant weather, they missed seeing the three-year-old boy sneaking into the sea. They soon realised his disappearance, and started searching for him, only to find the little boy struggling to remain afloat in the sea.
The family panicked and screamed for help. Sergeant Ali Mohammed Mohsen, a staff rescuer with the ambulance and rescue section of the RAK Police, who happened to be at the corniche, responded to the cry for help. After asking the family to remain calm, he rushed into the water to save the child.
Mohsen told Khaleej Times: "I saw the young boy struggling for his life in the sea and responded. It's not a big deal. Anyone in my place would have done the same."
Mohsen pointed out that he joined the ambulance and rescue section some 12 years back, and had undergone a series of intensive training on various types of rescue operations.
Abu Taleb, the father of the rescued child, thanked Mohsen for his brave act. He urged parents to keep an eye on their kids all the time wherever they are.
The RAK Police on Sunday honoured Sergeant Mohsen for his bravery, presence of mind and swift action.
Brigadier Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi, deputy chief commander of the RAK Police, said: "Sergeant Ali Mohammed Mohsen is passionate about his responsibility towards the community and this honour is in recognition of that."
