The department of public works has announced a 40 per cent discount on the environment violations registered in Ras Al Khaimah.
Ahmed Hamada Al Shehi, adviser of public services at the department of public works, said the move is in line with the holy month of Ramadan and the Year of Zayed, to bring happiness to the society.
"The discount, applicable in Ramadan also aims to enlighten the public about the importance of preserving the environment and encouraging them to keep it clean."
Records show that the Raqib patrols have recorded 1,849 violations in the first three months of the year. "Most of the violations registered were at tourist, beach and desert areas, mainly at Jebel Jais, Corniche Al Qawasim, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, as well as the beaches of Al Muairidh and the Saudi institute," said Al Shehi.
The department is to launch more environment patrols at the tourist Marjan Island to curb violations. "The emirate's scenic sites attract tourists and visitors from all over the country around the year."
Al Shehi said the department had earlier announced a 30 per cent discount on the violations earlier, to mark the Day of Happiness. "The department has launched several initiatives before to develop public awareness about the environment."
The department has managed to remarkably develop the performance of the Raqib inspection patrols since its inspection. "Our inspectors, now judicially powered, have curbed the number of environment violations in the emirate."
