A 30-year-old resident has drowned in the Muairidh Sea in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
The central operations room of the RAK Police, having received an alert, dispatched an ambulance, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in record time.
"Some people at the beach managed to pull the victim out of the sea," police sources said.
The marine rescue teams provided the victim with first aid and tried hard to resuscitate him, but to no avail, they added.
"The ambulance rushed the victim to the nearest hospital but he was declared dead there."
The police urged the public to be careful and avoid the deep and unstable areas of the sea, "particularly when the sea is rough and waves are high."
Eyewitnesses told Khaleej Times that the victim was swimming alone in the Muairidh Sea.
"He swam deep into the rough sea, and all of a sudden we heard him shouting for help, but he was too far to reach in time."
Many young people at the beach jumped into the sea and swam to save his life, Muhammad Ghafur, an eyewitness, said.
"Unfortunately, the sea was rough, and the rescuers could not reach the drowning young man in time."
Ashraf Al Shahat, another eyewitness, said the victim was fished out to the beach in a terrible condition.
"He was motionless, and we tried to resuscitate him, but he did not respond," he said. "Shortly, the ambulance and paramedics arrived at the scene and tried to give the kiss of life to him, but in vain."
