Indian CBSE schools see strong Grade 12 results in UAE

Dubai/Abu Dhabi - From the UAE, a total of 6, 696 students sat for the CBSE exams

Grade 12 students of Indian schools in the UAE were ecstatic and breathed a collective sigh of relief after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced its annual board examination results on Saturday, May 26.
School administrators and students told Khaleej Times that they are delighted with the results, and the latter have especially commended their teachers, saying they would not have been able to achieve these results without the teachers' help and guidance.
The CBSE is India's biggest school board and globally, 11,84,386 students registered to attempt its 2018 Grade 12 final examination. A total of 918,763 students passed the exam that took place in March-April. From the UAE, a total of 6,696 students sat for the exams.
Avelyn Kishore, UAE's CBSE science stream topper, scored a whopping 98.4 per cent. A student of Our Own English High School, Sharjah, Avelyn gives full credit for her performance to her extremely "dedicated set of teachers" and support from her parents. Her subjects combination was Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, and English.
Avelyn spoke to Khaleej Times fresh after her return from attempting the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) entrance examinations. "I just finished the exams when I got the news from my parents about the CBSE results. I am so grateful for my teachers' support because I scored so high thanks to paying attention to what was being taught in the class-room," she said.
As for her future and career ambitions, Avelyn said: "I've kept my options open. I have a SAT score of 2400 and have cleared the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), a scholarship programme funded by the Indian government, for admission into Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research in Pune."

She's also given the AIIMS entrance, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), and will attempt the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research entrance examination.
The commerce stream topper is Raina Lalit Shah, a student of Indian High School, Dubai, with a 97.4 per cent score. CBSE's humanities toppers' positions in the UAE were shared by two students - Chaarulatha Ramesh Kumar from Indian High School, Dubai, with 96.4 per cent and Nabiha Siddiqui of Delhi Private School, Dubai, who also scored 96.4 per cent.
In an interesting turn, two toppers from the Capital, both girls, have the same first name in Abu Dhabi. From the results received so far, Gayathri Santhosh, a science student from Sunrise English Private School, bagged the top spot in Abu Dhabi with 97.8 per cent. Meanwhile, Gayathri Soundararajan, another science student of Abu Dhabi Indian School Muroor, got 97.4 per cent.

Four students from Sunrise English Private School, Anish Ratheesh and Sharanaya Sasikumar (computer science) and Divya Cherian and Ashritha Suresh Kumar (psychology) scored 100 per cent.
Meanwhile, with 96.2 per cent Cianna Joseph Thattil of ADIS Muroor topped in commerce stream from Abu Dhabi. At Indian School Al Ain, Hajirath Liyana Shirin (science stream) got 94.2 per cent and commerce student Nazreen Abdul Raheem 95.2 per cent.
Science student Farah Shaik topped St Joseph's School with 95.6 per cent and Divya Jaikishen Sherwani in commerce with 95.4 per cent. Shabista Kutub (science) was school first in Emirate Future International Academy with 94.4 per cent and Vishnupriya Venkatesan (commerce) with 89.6 per cent.
Private International English School (Bhavans Abu Dhabi) had 100 per cent pass results, with Arjun Babu and Faishan Khan (science stream) scoring 94 per cent and the commerce stream's Kavya Jayaprakash, with 90 per cent, being the three school toppers.

Impressive results in Dubai
A number of schools have reported a 100 per cent pass percentage, with 20 per cent of the students scoring above 90 per cent. Asma Gilani, principal of Our Own English High School Sharjah, said: "We are very proud of Avelyn's results. The girls' have done exceptionally well and I couldn't be prouder. The teachers' have put in a staggering amount of hard work, and it shows in the results."
A total of 559 boys and girls, the highest number of candidates presented by a single school in Dubai, attempted the exam from The Indian High School and 99.8 per cent of the students were placed in first division.
Ashok Kumar, CEO of Indian High School, said: "The students have given a brilliant performance. Out of 559 students, 202 got 90 per cent and above and 437 scored 80 per cent and above. Also, 545 scored more than 70 per cent." Kumar credited hard work, consistency, focus and guidance from parents and teachers for the results.
Meanwhile, Gems CBSE schools have scored an outstanding 99.9 per cent pass rate in the board exams. Of the 1,560 of students who appeared for the exam, 21.28 per cent of the students scored above 90 per cent and 19.10 per cent of the students scored between 85 per cent and 90 per cent. Also, 98.27 per cent of the students scored over 60 per cent.
Michael Guzder, vice principal - Indian School, Gems Education said, "Gems schools have done exceedingly well in the AISSCE (Grade 12 CBSE) examination this year. All thanks to the terrifically consistent work by the teachers who motivated and inspired their pupils to give off their best."
He added: "Finishing portions well on time, plenty of revision, solving previous board question papers and a good rapport between teachers and pupils all contributed to the brilliant results. School principals raised the bar and the parent community supported admirably well, as always."
Delhi Private School Principal and director, Sharjah Vandana Marwaha, said the result reflects the hard work put in by the students and teachers alike.
