The media should highlight an accurate picture of the Arab World and its issues, according to Mona Al Merri, Director General of the Dubai Government Media Office.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Al Merri said that the forum reflects Arab culture, nature and religion and its role and humanity, and noted that the current conditions and problems of the Arab World have defamed the image of the Arab World and its values. The media, she should, needs to shed light on the positive aspect of the region and its humanitarian issues.
Mansour Al Mansouri, Acting Director General of the NMC, noted that the forum constitutes a major platform for dialogue and debate on the issues and concerns of the region, and noted that the humanitarian focus of the event chimes fully with the humanitarian message and role played by the UAE, which has been at the forefront of relief efforts for millions of people experiencing war and tragedy.
Additionally, Mansouri said that the participation of more than 2,000 media, cultural, intellectual and literary figures highlights the prominent role played by the UAE as a regional media-hub, as it provides a place for discussion, dialogue and forward thinking and offers well-developed infrastructure, regulations and laws that guarantee that the media can work freely and without any interference.
TV presenter Yahia Al Eid noted that the positive aspects of coverage discussed at the forum have unduly focused on people's suffering, and called for the media to focus on passive and humanitarian issues.
