Mooney, a devout Catholic, has dedicated the boat to the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late President of the United Arab Emirates, for his humanity and goodwill with people worldwide.

Next month, Mooney hopes to make a second attempt to row from Senegal to the Brooklyn Bridge to promote global awareness about Aids.

“To honour Shaikh Zayed in this way would be a honour,” says Mooney from his home in New York.
