Vice-Consul Geronimo Suliguin said the decision to open on holidays is in line with the efforts of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai to exert all efforts to reach out to as many OAV registrants as possible before the deadline.

He said the Consulate General will be open for OAV registration on Fridays (October 5, 12 and 19) and Saturdays (October 13, and 20) from 9am to 4pm this month to accommodate those who could not make it on weekdays. “A team shall be made available to attend to specially organised registration activities from far-flung areas.”

Field registration will also be made available to at least 150 Filipino nationals working in Hilton Jumeirah Resort, Hilton Residence and Hilton Creek. This is made possible through the efforts of the Filipino workers themselves, who have organised the activity in coordination with their management.

The Consulate General registered 3,307 new voters in September, bringing the total number of registered new absentee voters to 18,333, the biggest worldwide.

Matilyn Bagunu, Filipino Community (FilCom) Dubai and Northern Emirates president, has committed to support the registration process by encouraging the different FilCom member organisations to register on weekends. All organisations, accredited or not, and all Filipino nationals are also enjoined to participate in the registration drive for the 2013 elections, Vice-Consul Suliguin said.

Requirements for registration include personal appearance and a photocopy of passport’s data page.
