Dr Ram Buxani conferred honorary D.Litt by Mumbai varsity

Dr Buxani, who came to Dubai at a tender age of 18, fondly remembers the formation years of the city state which he has since adopted to be his hometown.

Dubai — Dubai-based businessman Dr Ram Buxani, 74, was conferred honorary D.Litt. Degree by D.Y. Patil University in Mumbai, India, on March 26.

A resident of Dubai for over 56 years, Dr Buxani, who came to Dubai at a tender age of 18, fondly remembers the formation years of the city state which he has since adopted to be his hometown.

He is the Chairman of ITL Cosmos Group, Dubai a 60-year-old conglomerate.

Dr Buxani had chaired the Board of prestigious Indian High School, Dubai boasting the strength of over 13,000 students during 2000-2004 in which period he brought significant changes in the outlook of the school, which also became the first Indian school to receive Shaikh Hamdan Award. He was the founder chairman of the Overseas Indian Economic Forum which subsequently paved the way for many Business Councils. He was its chairman during 1987-1993 and 1995-1999.

Author of the first autobiography in the region, ‘Taking the High Road’, which had been a bestseller for several months in Dubai in 2003. Dr Buxani received Ph.D for his thesis ‘Governance of Dubai: The influence of tribal tradition in decision making, especially in the critical periods of the development of the city-state” in 2004.  His autobiography has been translated into several languages like Hindi, Sindhi, Gujarati, Urdu, Marathi in India, Sindhi in Pakistan. Its Arabic and Malayalam versions are likely to be launched soon.
