The Dubai Municipality on Wednesday launched the e-ticketing system to allow Dubai Frame visitors to book their tickets online or via an app.
Through www.dubaiframe.ae or Dubai Frame App, residents can book their tickets in advance and ensure their own preferred time of visit. The system will also update visitors whether tickets are sold out for a specific time slot.
Khalid Al Suwaidi, director of leisure facilities department at the municipality, said the new smart system will cut long queues of visitors approaching the ticket counter to access the 150-metre long twin tower project, located in Zabeel Park.
"We used to see rush of visitors on the gates especially during Eid and public holidays," said Al Suwaidi.
He added that Eid Al Fitr witnessed up to 7,000 visitors a day queuing outside the landmark. "While we slotted 200 people per hour, sometimes we had to raise the number to 250 and even 400 to avoid upsetting visitors who came from abroad to see the landmark."
The online portal, launched in collaboration with Etisalat, offers 200 tickets for every half an hour slot, giving visitors the opportunity to book tickets in different categories. Free tickets are provided for people of determination along with two companions, children less than three years old and elderly above 60. Adults can book their tickets at Dh50 and children aged three to 12 years old for Dh20.
The new system also offers a wide range of e-services, including detailed information about the frame to help residents plan their visit at ease.
The technology includes photography, sharing of images immediately on email and social media and provides free WiFi to visitors.
No closure for private functions
Dawood Al Hajiri, Director-General of the Dubai Municipality, said the launch of the website will facilitate the process of online booking without having to bear the burden of traffic congestions and fluctuations in weather conditions.
He confirmed that while the frame has previously been closed on separate government occasions, the landmark will not close its doors if private functions were held.
"We have previously closed the frame for a couple of hours for special functions by the government, but these were exceptional cases. The frame will always be open for visitors," Al Hajiri said, confirming updates will be posted on the smart portal.
He added that requests for private events must be directed through the municipality to be organised in a way that won't disrupt visitors.
Since its launch in January, Dubai Frame has received over 466,000 visitors. It has become one of the most important tourism projects and the most visited touristic site characterised with its distinctive height that allows visitors to have a 360 degree view of the city's old skylines to the north and modern aspect to the south.
Open from 9am to 9pm daily, the Dubai Frame is expected to receive over 2 million visitors a year to see the city in a new perspective from the 150-metre high glass sky bridge as they go through the journey of Dubai's past, present and future.
