An emergency call on 999 from a worried mother in Northern Ireland, looking for her son in Dubai who hadn't contacted his family for 6 years, made the Dubai Police swing into action. The cops not only traced the man, but made efforts to ensure the family was reunited.

Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, said the mother -- Kate -- sought help of Dubai Police to search for her son Gerard as she feared he could be facing a psychological problem due to his professional instability. She also thought that her son might have met with an accident that had prevented him from communicating with his family for such a long time.

The police officers calmed her down and took down the details of Gerard's residence. Police patrols were sent to Jebel Ali area, where he was believed to be staying. They conducted enquiries and zeroed in on his residence. When they went inside it, they found that he needed urgent medical assistance. He was rushed to Rashid Hospital in Dubai.

The Dubai Police not only informed his family, but also booked tickets for them to Dubai. And thus, the family was reunited.

Praising the Dubai Police's swift action, Kate expressed her happiness on meeting her son and thanked the cops. She also met with Lieutenant Ahmad Mzayud, who received the emergency call and the members of the patrol team.

Gerard also thanked the Dubai Police for their gesture to host his father, mother and sister in Dubai. He said he was delighted to see his family after all these years.
