Three UAE residents have been named in the World Economic Forum's prestigious annual Young Global Leaders list for 2018 released on Wednesday.
Alisa Moopen, executive director at Aster DM Healthcare; Razan Al Mubarak, secretary general at Environment Agency Abu Dhabi; and Tamer Makary, founder of Ethica Partner made it to the list for this year.

In the Middle East, three young leaders from Saudi Arabia and one each from Jordan, Egypt and Palestinian Territories made it to the list.

Overall, 100 of the world's most promising artists, business leaders, public servants, technologists and social entrepreneurs - all aged under 40 - have been asked to join the World Economic Forum's community of Young Global Leaders.
They are joining a community and five-year programme that will challenge them to think beyond their scope of expertise and be more impactful leaders. They were nominated because of their ground-breaking work, creative approaches to problems and ability to build bridges across cultures and between business, government and civil society.

As an activist to improve healthcare, Alisha Moopen oversees 85 clinics and seven hospitals for a healthcare conglomerate spanning 9 countries. She is dedicated to women's empowerment and mental health. She is also a trustee and active member of the Aster DM Foundation, working with children with congenital heart disease.

With a long and distinguished record of environmental advocacy in her career, Razan Al Mubarak has embarked on leading the task of instituting environmental regulation, conservation and the promotion of sustainable development in Abu Dhabi.

She also chairs the Eye on Earth community which is a global movement that focuses on enabling sustainable development by improving the creation, availability, use of data, information and knowledge for all stakeholders in society. She founded Emirates Wildlife Society in association with WWF in 2001 and is currently the Managing Director.

The UAE-based Tamer Makary focuses his efforts on the growing intersection between the worlds of commerce and philanthropy. Recently he helped establish Sub-Saharan Africa's first non-for-profit eye hospital in Yaoundé, Cameroon; and he is currently in the process of launching localised eye care interventions in Indonesia, a country with the second highest prevalence of visual impairment in the world.
This year's most known figure included in the list is Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra.
