The Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 will start with a spectacular celebration of humanity during the opening ceremony at a sold-out Zayed Sports City Stadium on Thursday (March 14) by 5:00 pm.
There are no more tickets available for the ceremony, which means more than 40,000 supporters inside the stadium and millions of viewers globally are expected to be part of the movement for inclusiveness.
Some 7,500 athletes from 200 countries, with celebrities and other sports icons will march out united to spread awareness and message of acceptance. More than 2,500 women will fly the flag for their nations.
In a first, 21 Saudi Arabian women athletes will be part of the Games. The UAE will field 320 athletes - the biggest delegation followed by India and the US.
And there is some serious flow of entertainment with a stellar line-up of musicians. Emirati singer and Good Will Ambassador at Large Hussain Al Jassmi, Syria's Assala Nasri, Egypt's Tamer Hosny, and global names like Avril Lavigne and Luis Fonsi will reveal the Games anthem 'Right Where I'm Supposed To Be'.
There are more songs, events and activities along with fireworks expected to light up the skies and minds of people.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
There is no parking at the Zayed Sports City Stadium. So you need to halt at designated areas in Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque park-and-ride locations. Shuttle buses will leave Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque to Zayed Sports City Stadium every 15 minutes from 3:45 pm to 6:pm. Last bus to depart from the stadium back to the mosque will be at 11:30 pm. Also please keep tickets handy to board the shuttle bus.
