Abu Dhabi Police has issued a warning that keeping your phones plugged in all through the night can lead to fires.
While modern smartphones and chargers are advanced enough to prevent overcharging and overheating, there's a fire hazard if an incompatible charger is used for charging the device.
Police have also warned that water heaters should be switched off at night, an Emarat Al Youm report said on Monday.
Similarly, ovens, gas cylinders and all heavy electrical equipment should be turned off and unplugged, the police said.
The police also urged residents to install smoke detectors and fire alarms, and regularly maintain firefighting equipment.
The police warning comes after eight people died in a villa fire in Abu Dhabi last week.
