Dubai-based singer-songwriter Marielle Castro took on the Pinay Makeover challenge over the weekend in celebration of International Women’s Day. “I guess I took the makeover challenge because I believe in inspiring other pinays to work for their dreams, and that before we can succeed, we have to accept and love who we are, and who we’ve become,” shares Marielle.
The 26-year old aesthetic nurse has launched her career as a recording artist in 2013 and recently released a 5-track EP entitled The Wayfarer recorded in Shadow Lane Studio in Nashville USA by veteran producers Andy Kay and Philippe Wolfe.
“I think women should be allowed to feel good about themselves. I am glad to be part of Pinay Makeover. It is especially relevant for us Filipinas in the Middle East who need some kind of support group. It was empowering to work with lovely fellow pinays, who dedicated their time and talent to make me feel like a woman,” Marielle adds.
Launched by a group of Filipina make-up artists, stylists and social media experts, the campaign is a grassroots initiative that aims to uplift the Filipina image in the Middle East.
Their goal is to transform the seemingly ordinary Pinay, into a “role model” to remind her that she is beautiful, worthy of respect and love, and capable of reaching for her dreams.
Working with other UAE-based Filipino photographers, the team offers free makeovers and a professional photoshoot on weekends to those willing to brave the spotlight to share their inspiring stories.
Marielle Castro’s new EP The Wayfarer is now available on streaming via Anghami, the region’s leading music app.
