ALFRESCO DINING ROOM

Love to dine outdoors but stuck at home? Invest in a bistro table, or a folding one that can be easily tucked away if you have a tight space. Or, place a few pillows and an adjustable table with ambient lighting in an unused corner — voilà! A moonlit setting can turn weeknight leftovers into a romantic evening.

LIGHT IT UP

The ambience of an outdoor space heavily depends on the lighting. Fortunately, there are tonnes of options available. From twinkly string lights, paper lanterns, artificial candles, or even convert an indoor lamp/pendant for the outdoors. With the right illumination, your outdoor oasis will shine.

CHOOSE A THEME

Decorate the space with a theme in mind. Neutral tones are relaxing, and a splash of colour keeps things interesting. Go big with oversized pillows, which will hide any chips or nicks. You can also link it with your indoor colour scheme and connect the spaces seamlessly, bringing the whole house together. Or embrace your preppy side by opting for gingham cushions to brighten up the space.

LOUNGE IN STYLE

Seating can make or break your space. Comfort first, especially when you’re hosting guests. Whether it’s a sofa, daybed, hammock or lounge chair, make sure it’s a place to kick back and put up your feet. If you have a large space, use an XL sofa with oversized cushions. Or, convert the area into an outdoor movie theatre and cosy up in a daybed.
