His closest rivals were Craig Forrest and Daniel Hendry, three and four shots adrift respectively.

Al Musharrekh’s opening round was almost flawless, he accumulated birdies on the 3rd, 8th, 10th and 13th giving one shot back on the 218-yard par three 17th.

He was full of confidence going into the final round over the fabulous Majlis course.

He has plenty of experience of playing the Karl Litten designed track following his exploits in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Although the rough was less penal the greens were running at tournament speed at over 11 on the stimp meter. Once again he got off to a steady start with a level par front nine however a bogey on the par five 10th saw him slip back to 2-under.

At this stage Pontus Fredriksson from Emirates Golf Club got within two shots of the lead but a double bogey on the 13th hole cost him a shot at the title.

Al Musharrekh on the other hand eagled the 13th resulting in a 4-shot swing, further birdies followed at the 14th and 18th holes resulting in back to back 70’s, for a 140 tally, 5-under par.

Fredriksson finished runner-up on a 147 total. Philip Waine was two shots further adrift in third with rounds of 77 and 72, with Trevor Marshal in fourth after a pair of 75’s.

Richard Holden improved his opening net 75 on the Faldo with a net 69 on the Majlis to clinch best net tally for the Championship.

Sohail Al Marzouqui clinched second with Maajid Mushtaq Madni in third.
