The burly captain and spinner returned with excellent figures of 4.2-1-11-6 to skittle out Emistate to 96 in reply to Phoenix’s 331 to register their second win in three games at the Zayed stadium.

Usman Manzoor and Sharjeel Khan, the opening bowlers, provided the early breaks by taking two wickets apiece. Mirza came in first change to run through the rest of the Emistate batting.

Asif Mumtaz stroked a top score of 81 and Sharjeel, the opener, hit 75 for Phoenix to post a challenging total. Emistate’s bowling also bordered on the untidy as they hurled down 34 wides in the 39 extras they conceded.

Mumtaz’s hit 11 boundaries in his 75-ball stay at the wicket and Sharjeel’s entertaining 37-ball contained 16 fours and a six.

New Medical Centre extended their winning streak to three in Group A after a 29-run triumph over Yogi Group. Asim Ijaz and Indika Sampath shared a 126-run partnership for the second wicket for NMC to post 290 and Shadeep Silva, the UAE national team spinner, grabbed three for 41 from 9.2 overs to dismiss Yogi for 261.

Sampath was the more adventurous, hitting 10 fours and three sixes, and Ijaz played the anchor role, facing 104 balls and hitting four boundaries.
