Dubai — Amjad Ali and Anfal P.M. set the tone in the Fourth Interface Transworld Ramadan T20 Cricket Tournament which got under way at the Fairgrounds of the Dubai Men’s College with half centuries for United Bank Limited (UBL) and Globelink West Star Shipping respectively. The month-long tournament is being organised by Dubai Cricket Council.

Emirati Warriors won the toss and decided to field in their Group C match. It was not what the doctor ordered as Globelink rode on a crafty 51 from man of the match Anfal to post 159 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Anfal struck two mighty sixes and three boundaries during his knock which came off only 38 deliveries. Ubadah Barmawar upped the scoring ante hitting three towering sixes and two fours in his 20-ball 39, while Puneet Kumar played a cameo 18 from 13 balls in the slog overs.

The Warriors’ team which comprises UAE-born players had contributions from Mohammed Iqbal (34), Salman Farooq (23), Omair Shaukat (14), Babar Malik (11), Ibrahim Malik (13) and Riaz Khaliq (10) but none of the players could carry their bat through. In the end they lost by 26 runs but they deserve kudos for putting up a fight in their first match.

In a Group B match, United Bank Limited beat Light Speed Garage by seven wickets.
