A series of Tweets on the club’s official Twitter feed confirmed: “Former Al Wasl coach Diego Maradona visits current coach Bruno Metsu in his home to check up on him and wish him well.
“Maradona advised Bruno Metsu to stay strong and not to think about his illness or any negativity that might affect his willpower or stamina.
“Maradona wished Bruno Metsu a speedy recovery and hoped to see him back on his feet amongst his players at Al Wasl as soon as possible.” Maradona is the latest sporting personality here to show his support for Metsu following similar sentiments expressed by the respective managers of Al Nasr and Al Dhafra, Walter Zenga and Dzemal Hadziabdic.
Emotive banners have also been put up at the home grounds of Al Shabab and Al Ahli, where the Red Knights’ coach Quique Sanchez Flores said of Metsu’s health situation after his side’s 5-1 victory over Shabab on Sunday night.
“It’s a moment to send a message for Bruno Metsu; it’s important to recuperate as soon as possible,” the Spaniard explained.
“I’m hoping for the best for Bruno Metsu. He’s a good coach, but – overall – he’s a good person. Everybody loves Bruno Metsu.
“That stands for something and I liked the fact that the fans of Al Ahli Club put up a poster in support of Bruno Metsu.
“It’s a nice touch and the feeling of all of the people who are working for this club.”
