In the Indian aviation sector it is the national carrier that truly connects the country and is arguably one of the strongest brands representing India. It's a regional heavy weight allowing people to travel easily between metropolitan and tier II and III cities; no private airline flies to as many destinations in India as the national carrier does. However, mismanagement has led to its terrible state of affairs.
Over Rs50,000 crore of debt has crippled its competitive spirit and hampered progress. Therefore, the news of divestment augurs well. A change in ownership pattern might bring about a change the carrier badly needs. Perhaps the organisation would emerge stronger and realise its true potential. Maharaja has been India's pride, and would continue to be so.
