Teachers deserve better pay, benefits

The reader's letter, Teaching is a noble profession (KT, Feb 1) made some pertinent points. Unfortunately, this is one profession that has been ignored and poorly compensated. I have huge respect for people who take up this profession as teaching is no easy task. One might think that teaching is all about lecturing a bunch of students in a class but there is much more to it.
I strongly feel it is time the authorities should step in for the teachers so that they get what they deserve. If they are motivated and given the right support, the students will also fare well.
