How about Dubai-like Salik gates in India too?

The Indian government has upgraded toll collection mechanism and from the 15th of this month all the national highways are going cashless. Every vehicle, be it is a public, private or a commercial vehicle, will have to use FASTag to pay for toll. It is a good move and will save a lot of time for commuters. But I don't think this is a complete solution. Fast tags would become really effective only if there are no toll booths, barriers or physical gates, and commuters get to drive straight through the toll gate at normal speed.
Fast tags are a great idea, but this is being implemented as a half-baked plan. Such a concept can only be successful if one doesn't have to stop vehicles at any point on the highway to pay manually. Everything should be automatic. There should be a big over the top RFID gate across the roads that can automatically deduct the toll charge. Only then will we be able to truly save on time and fuel.
