A power bank reportedly exploded on a Royal Brunei Airlines plane flying from Hong Kong to Bandar Seri Begawan, causing panic among passengers on Thursday.
There explosion is said to have caused a small fire after which the plane cabin was filled with smoke. But the aircraft landed safely at its destination and no one was reported to be injured in the mid-air emergency, reported The Strait Times.
The incident was shared on Facebook by a user named Francis Ngu Hown Hua who posted pictures and videos of the incident. Hua, in his Facebook post, praised the crew members for their professionalism and composure in handling the situation.
The Brunei national carrier confirmed the incident referring it to as "a power bank incident" in a statement on its website.
"Our cabin crew are trained to follow standard operating procedures to handle such incidents professionally and to ensure the safety of our guests at all times. We carry the recommended safety equipment on board at all times," the airlines added in the statement.

The videos and images show the aircraft cabin filled with smoke as passengers cover their noses and faces. The flight attendants are seen in the video calmly extinguishing the small fire and pacify panicked passengers.

Highlighting the dangers of carrying such goods on flight, the airline issued a reminder for passengers to observe the Guide to Dangerous Goods for checked-in or carry-on baggage in accordance with the International Air Transport Association's Dangerous Goods Regulations. However, power banks are allowed as carry-on luggage.
The recent mid-air incident was caused by a passenger charging or using the power bank is still not clear.
