Former Indian minister Arun Jaitley remains critical

Jaitley was admitted on August 9 after he complained of uneasiness and weakness.

Former Indian finance minister Arun Jaitley continued to remain in critical condition on Sunday evening even as he was put on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) support at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

ECMO is used for patients whose lungs and heart are incapable of operating on their own.

Several political leaders have been visiting Jaitley ever since he has been admitted at AIIMS since August 9, such as President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, Union home minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, union minister Piyush Goyal, Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik, and Congress leaders Abhishek Singhvi and Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS on August 9 after he complained of uneasiness and weakness. Owing to his health condition, Jaitley had opted out of contesting the elections this year as well as taking up a ministerial role.
