Peslier-Barbe script victory

Top French jockey Olivier Peslier teamed up with trainer Phillipe Barbe to land the 2200m first leg of The President of the UAE Cup series PA Group-1 aboard Seraphin Du Paon at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club on Sunday night.

The five-year-old travelled very well from the centre of the track and stormed home gamely to lead by more than three lengths before being eased on the line.

“He’s a nice horse and we may send him directly to the Dubai Kahaylla Classic Gr-1 on the Dubai World Cup night,” the French trainer Phillipe Barbe said.

“There’s no plan to try him before the race. The clear target would be the big race. Fryvolous could also be another candidate for the Kahayla, but this depends on how he will handle the surface in a 1400m contest at Meydan,” he said.

Meanwhile, Etihad Airways has provided two return tickets to Europe to attend one of the HH The President of the UAE series and a European lucky fan won these. Two cars also were on raffle for the public after the end of the race.

UAE debutant Dariya, Ted Durcan up, held on very strongly to claim the 1000m Purebred Arabians Etihad Airlines Al Ruwais Stakes in a spectacular finish.

Trained by Saifaldin Deeb on behalf of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the seven-year-old son of Dormane prevailed by a just short head from the mount of Kieren Fallon, Zells Fred as Haneen under Tadhg O’Shea was a head back in third.

“He’s back from a long lay-off after injury and returned to action only three months ago,” said trainer Saifaldin Deeb. “We will see how did he come from the race and obvious target would a 1400m contest at Meydan,” he said.

AF Alghabra, ridden by Tadhg O’Shea, cruised to her seventh career victory to land the UAE Bred Prestige “Emirates Breeders Cup” in great style.

The six-year-old daughter of former champion Ezil raced from the centre of the field making a smooth progress to hit the front and surged ahead unchallenged. Jockey Tadhg O’Shea said: “She’s tough, honest and keeps running.”

Naseem Al Reef, ridden by Gerald Avranche, came with a late run to take second from Meshwar as early reader AS Muheeb went out of gas and dropped back to finish fourth.

The opening race, a 1200m Purebred Arabians Rated Maiden The Abu Dhabi Maiden Race, was won by Million in the hands and heels of Patrick Cosgrave.

Too Much Trouble, trained by Musabah Al Muhairi and ridden by Wayne Smith, won the fifth race, a 2400m only Thoroughbreds contest on the card.
