All eyes were on Mannjal, William Buick up, following the scratch of hot favourite Alsadeek, but Glorius Gift lived up to his name and held on courageously when challenged by Effort, under Jesus Rosales, in the concluding strides of the fast pace.

MA Al Wadi, partnered by claiming apprentice jockey Harry Bantley, landed the 1800m Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum UAE Breeders Society Challenge Season Championship.

The five-year-old son of Zefiro Du Nulvi galloped to his third straight victory over different distances at the same track to deny stable companion and public favourite AF Alghabra under Tadhg O’Shea. Unbeaten in her last seven starts in two years, AF Alghabra did nothing to keep her record intact. She was always chasing the winner home as MH Al Wadi kicked away from the rest of the pack to lead by two lengths up the hill.

In the second race, a nine-furlong Thoroughbreds Handicp, Royston Ffrench rode Five Cents to a stunning victory to the delight of trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe. The four-year-old Exceed and Excel colt left the machine very quickly and raced from the centre of the track before he was asked the question to sprint home unchallenged. Al Marmoom, under Carlos Sanchez, was second and behind them came the mount of Tadhg O’Shea, Hunter’s Glen.

Quartier Latin made it a winning debut at the hilly track for trainer Doug Watson after he landed the 1400m Derrinstown Stud Thoroughbreds Handicap in the hands and heels of Richard Hills. Having disappointed in four starts at the Meydanturf and All-Weather tarcks, the four-year-old Orpen colt produced an extremely high speed to prevail by a half length from fast-finishing top weight Otaared, under William Buick. It’sminenotyours came with a late run to take third in the last strides. Second public choice Atlantic Brave didn’t show great effort and finished a disappointing sixth.

Harry Bentley completed a double after the rising star partnered Lord Tiger to glory in the 1400m Thoroughbreds Maiden race sponsored by Beam Group of Companies. Making the best of the apprentice allowance, the four-year-old son of Tiger Hill broke well and raced keenly to show the way from the centre of the track. Owned by Shaikh Mansour bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and trained by Satish Seemar at Zabeel Stables, the bay colt did the better work up the hill to deny UAE apprentice Saeed Al Mazroui on Spice Souk. Redden under Tadhg O’Shea finished close third. The final race of the afternoon, a 1600m Handicap sponsored by Emirates Airline was won by Sailorman in the hands and heels of Italian apprentice Antioco Murgia for trainer Ismail Mohammed who claimed a 1-2 in the race.
