The project will cost $3 million. The hospital which provides free medical services for 2 million Palestinians is built on an area of 5,000 square metres and is situated on the north-eastern part of the city. It provides medical care for the Palestinians living in and around the city.

Dr Abdul Rahim Al Hanbali, Chairman of Zakat Committee in Nablus, which is supervising the project, said that the UAE RCS has already paid $700,000 for the building and agreed to pay $300,000 for the expenses of the hospital's infrastructure and other services. In an interview with the mission of the Emirates News Agency (Wam), who visited the hospital to report on its future plans, Dr Hanbali said that this project is considered one of the most modern medical projects in Palestine, similar to that of Al Buqaa Hospital in Al Quds. However, the services provided in the latter is at present of limited standard, due to constant closures and curfews imposed by the Israeli occupation forces on the Palestinian towns and cities, Dr Hanbali said, adding that the inhuman and callous Israeli practices against the Palestinians have left tragic and traumatic effects on the Palestinians.

Meanwhile, in Baghdad, an RCS team led by Khalfan Al Kaabi offered yesterday medical assistance to the Tikrit hospital (teaching) as part of its campaign to help Iraqi people. The medical aid was donated by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

The aid was received by the hospital management.

Mr Al Kaabi said that basic foodstuff and children's clothes were also distributed to population in Tikrit. Sheikh Hamad Al Qasimi, chief of one of Tikrit's tribes, who greeted the RCS team during their visit to the region, thanked the UAE for its great support for the Iraqi people. "It is no strange for the UAE leadership to stand by its fellows during their ordeal," he said.

In Mosul, the Red Crescent gave away relief aid to poor families in Khazraj area.
