Sharjah-based Indian wins DDF's $1m draw

DUBAI - A Sharjah-based Indian national, Mr Shabaz Elias shouted with joy upon learning that his ticket No.1312 in Series No.29 had just won him a $1 million in Dubai Duty Free's Millennium Millionaire Draw which was held yesterday at Shaikh Rashid Terminal, according to a Press release.

The thirty-six year old father of two girls was understandably ecstatic and was speechless for sometime after hearing the news.

When asked of his initial reaction, Mr Elias said, "Winning a million dollars definitely brings a lot of smile, and I would like to thank Dubai Duty Free for making my day truly great."


Mr Elias purchased the winning ticket on March 9 while travelling to London on business. Although too surprised to think of ways to spend his winnings, Mr Elias will discuss his good fortune with his family before making a final decision.

Mr Elias owns a seafood factory in Ajman, and has been a resident of Sharjah for almost ten years now.


The draw was conducted by Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Department of Civil Aviation, along with Colm McLoughlin, Managing, Director of Dubai Duty Free.

Following the Millennium Millionaire draw, two British nationals were announced winners in the Finest Surprise Promotion.

David Tranter from Birmingham won a Lapis Blue Metallic Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe in Series No.1092 with ticket No.0171, while Dubai-based Adrian Wood won the Harley Davidson in Series No.12 with ticket No.0769.

A presentation to the previous winner took place after the draw.

Mr Punit Kumar Jagada, a Dubai-based Indian national was delighted to collect his Harley Davidson which he won in Series No.11 with ticket No.0154.

Also present at the draw was George Horan, General Manager of Dubai Duty Free, and Salah Tahlak, Senior Manager-Promotions & Advertising, Dubai Duty Free, stated the Press release.
