The war rooms, under government offices in Whitehall, were used by the British Cabinet throughout the World War II. During his tour, Shaikh Khalifa was briefed by Mr Reed on the layout of and role of the museum, which was the nerve centre of the British government.

The then British prime minister, Sir Winston Churchill, directed the military operations from the underground bomb-proof complex.

The rooms offered Churchill, his cabinet, his war council, his intelligence organisation and his staff, a shelter from air raids on London, a work place, a place for staying there for as long as necessary.

The British Secretary for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jack Straw, walked alongwith Shaikh Khalifa and his accompanying delegation from the 10 Downing Street to the museum after his talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
