Boom time for car rental firms

DUBAI - The boom experienced by traders and vendors in Dubai during a traditionally lean period is astounding.

It shows how much business scene has changed because of the government"s efforts and the private sector. Car rental agencies have found that the period when they all used to consider as "non-activity" is now a boom time.

On behalf of Hertz UAE, Bob Farrow, General Manager, said: "Hertz has a lot to offer the visiting family and we are readying ourselves for the summer rush to Dubai."


Mark T. Goodworth, District Manager for Dubai and Northern Emirates at Avis Rent A Car, said: "Since its inception DSS has gone from strength to strength and we have witnessed increasing business levels accordingly."

Rahul Singh, General Manager of Thrifty Car Rental, said: "The option of Dubai is extremely lucrative, especially since the city is now a giant playground for children."


Duncan Peat, General Manager, Budget Rent A Car, said, "Reservations are already showing an increase for the DSS period vs the same time in 2002. This success is due to the efforts of Dubai Government and DTCM."
